The Graeae Sisters
Three sisters in Greek mythology who shared one eye and one tooth between them. Their names are Deino (dread), Enyo (horror), and Pemphredo (alarm). They are sisters to the Gorgon.
The hero Perseus stole their shared eye and used it as ransom to obtain information on how to kill Medusa.

Good one. I forgot about them. Must have been real lookers!
*snort* Charming women, I’m sure, Buffy!
Oh my dear friend Laura, I have never heard of these ladies and they are frightful. My first thought was of your safety. My second thought, your sanity..LOL I hope you can still sleep well at night with these characters in your head. I would take a thousand Jezebels before those gals.
On a more serious note: How are you? I hope you are feeling better and are out of pain, as much as one with Fibromyalgia can be. I will continue to send many positive vibes and prayers your way.
Have a comfy weekend xo
Well, Cindy, who can resist 3 women who have to share 1 eyeball? Do they drop it often when they pass it back and forth? Roll under the furniture? I have these questions.
I’m feeling much better, other than tired, thanks! Doing a lot of reading and sitting on my behind.
And I remember that from the first Clash of the Titans movie. You know – the good one!
I’d forgotten they were in the movie, Alex! Thanks for reminding me.
Wikipedia says: “In The Sea of Monsters, the second Percy Jackson & the Olympians novel, the Grey Sisters were taxi drivers operating in the New York area.” Talk about frightful. Also: “The single eye aspect of them was depicted as an aspect of the Fates in the 1997 Disney film Hercules.” Leave it to the Disney people to get it all wrong. In the Wikipedia article on Perseus, I couldn’t help but note how cute artists have imagined him to be. Thank Zeus for siring him.
Hi, Ron! I wonder why Disney depicted the Graeae as the Moirae? Very different trio! The concept of them being taxi drivers is kind of funny though.
I wouldn’t want to share my eye with anyone. Better than sharing a brain I guess.
Well, there is that, Laurita…
I first heard of them from Clash of the Titans.
The old one.
I haven’t seen that movie in years, Ciara! Maybe I should rent it.
Haven’t seen the new one at all.
Lawdy, that looks like a photo of me and my two sisters.
You crack me up, Helen! I’ve seen your picture…besides being beautiful, you have two eyes and a full set of nice teeth.
Ohh this is a very good one…You have got me inspired…
Glad to have inspired you with scary goodness, Savannah!
I’m learning more and more about mythology. And realizing how little I really knew. And how thankful I am that I’m not a Graeae.
Aren’t we all, Carol! I’m afraid I wouldn’t want to share the eye and there’d be fights.
Dread, Horror and Alarm – such names. Better, I suppose, than Medusa the Gorgon. But not much.
Thanks for the view into this charming family, Laura.
They are lovely names, Kevin.
Did you notice my last name is only one letter off from Enyo (horror)?
I love these. They figure in an urban fantasy book I might finish writing one of these years . . .
Cool, Erin! I imagine you could get a lot of mileage out of them.
